What Lack I Yet?

What Lack I Yet?
By Phil McIntosh

Have you ever felt like you weren’t getting everything from life you wanted? Surely you’ve had days where you felt you were chasing your tail; you run from one place to another, everything is scheduled out, someone always needs something from you, and it doesn’t seem as if there is enough time to get it all accomplished. Maybe you feel as if you are alone and life is just passing you by. Regardless of what your specific, unique situation might be, most of us have felt some faint hopelessness or insecurity. Many still do. God has the answer if you have the courage to break out of your current insulated shell and seek it.
One day, a long time ago, there was a young man who seemed to “have it all.” He was young, rich, and even was in a position of authority. The Bible calls this man a “ruler” (Luke 18:18). This aptly called “rich, young ruler” approached the Lord one day and asked Him what was missing in his quest for eternal life. Clearly what the world offered him wasn’t enough and he cared about the future of his soul. Jesus told him to keep the law and he quickly responded with- “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?” What an awesome question to ask and what an awesome Person to ask! The young man asked the right question (how he would secure eternal life) and he asked the right person (the Lord). Jesus’ response to him was that he needed to separate himself from that which demanded too much dedication and attention in life which would hold the place of priority over his future. This man was apparently too emotionally invested in his money and when Jesus told him to sell what he had and give it away he was sorrowful and unwilling. The regrettable fact is that the young man didn’t make the right decision.
Do you want more from life? Do you want to see Heaven? Do you want the Lord in your life and the blessings He provides both in this world and the next? Open your Bible and ask the Lord what you lack. We invite you to study with us to see what the Lord has in store for you. You don’t have to be alone, you don’t have to feel as if life is passing you by, and you don’t have to be lost in the shuffle. Come let us show you the Lord who will provide the answer and the motivation for you to pursue what is lacking in your quest for eternal life and peace.
